Pointe du Hoc, five kilometres west, retains cratered lunar terrain where Rangers scaled thirty-metre cliffs under fire. The German gun emplacements, cast in reinforced concrete, still punctuate the headland.
Guided battlefield tours departing Caen combine the Mémorial's archival depth with on-site interpretation at Arromanches, where remnants of the Mulberry harbour—prefabricated caissons sunk to create an artificial port—remain visible at low tide. The harbour discharged five hundred thousand tonnes of supplies in its first hundred days. Full-day excursions typically cover four to six sites; half-day options concentrate on the American or British-Canadian sectors.
